National Guard units raided a house occupied by what the Ministry of the Interior described as “dangerous terrorists” in a northwestern suburb of Tunis on Wednesday, May 11, killing two militants and arresting 16 others.
According to a Ministry of the Interior press release the suspects, from different regions of Tunisia were converging on the capital region ‘to prepare synchronized terrorist attacks.’
The same source said a number of weapons including Kalashnikovs, pistols, ammunition and grenades were seized in the home and on the suspects, some of whom attempted to flee.
The raid on the home in the Ettadhamen neighborhood, (described alternately as the Mnihla delegation, in several of the Ministry’s press releases), in the Governorate of Ariana began between eight and nine in the morning and as of noon search operations are still ongoing for further suspects who may have escaped the initial raid.
Several local media outlets have reported, citing security sources, that several of the suspects took part in the March 7, attack on Ben Guerdane.
