The Ministry of the Interior announced the dismantling of a 'terrorist cell' of three individuals in the governorate of Mahdia who had received weapons training and 'intended to carry out attacks' on Wednesday, April 27.
According to a Ministry statement an investigation was instigated when one of the accused cell members return from Egypt, where the suspect admitted to having sworn allegiance to the Islamic State and spent time in Sinai.
The suspects have been ordered detained by an investing judge with the Counterterrorism Judicial Pole.
An insurgency in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula waged by militants affiliated with the Islamic State has killed hundreds of Egyptian security and military personnel since 2013.
The group 'Sinai Province' claimed responsibility for the downing of a Russian airliner last year.
