A joint statement on Saturday, March 5, from the Interior and Defense Ministries said that in addition to artillery bombardments of paths and 'hideouts' believed to be used by the militants, National Guard and Army units were conducting search operations on Jebel Mghilla.
The actions by security forces are being conducted in response to reports received around 10 p.m. on Friday from residents that approximately 40 militants had descended from Jebel (Mount) Mghilla and raided several homes in the village of Douar Rhaimya, near town of Zaghmar (Governorate of Sidi Bouzid).
The joint statement added that testimony from residents indicated that the militants had taken food, blankets and warm clothing from four houses.
On Monday, February 29, another joint operation by Tunisian National Guard and Army units killed four militants in an ambush at Ain Jaffel, located between Sbeitla (Governorate of Kasserine) and Jelma (Governorate of Sidi Bouzid). After the ambush a search operation was conducted on Jebel Mghilla where according a Ministry of the Interior statement a small weapons cache which included several Kalashnikovs, ammo, detonators, and hand grenades were found.
Several additional search operations in February uncovered militants camps in the region on Jebel Mghilla, Jebel Sammama and Jebel Selloum which included not only supplies but explosives materials and weapons.
